Okay, here’s my blog post about installing that batten volleyball hard maple assembled wooden flooring:
Alright, so I finally got around to tackling that flooring project I’ve been putting off. You know, the one in the spare room that was going to become my “home gym” (we’ll see how long that lasts). I went with this batten volleyball hard maple assembled wooden flooring, mostly because it looked good and I figured it couldn’t be that hard to install, right?
Prepping the Space
First things first, I cleared out the entire room. Furniture, old boxes of junk, everything. Then came the fun part – pulling up the nasty old carpet and the even nastier padding underneath. That was a workout in itself! I made sure to wear a mask, because who knows what kind of dust and who-knows-what was lurking in there.
Once the carpet was gone, I gave the subfloor a good sweeping and vacuuming. I wanted a nice, clean surface to work with. I also checked for any loose nails or screws and hammered them down. Wouldn’t want those popping up later.
Getting the Flooring Down
Next up, the actual flooring! This stuff came in pre-assembled panels, which was a relief. I’d watched a few videos online, so I felt somewhat prepared. I started in one corner, laying down the first panel. One important thing I realized – and nearly messed up – was leaving a small gap around the edges of the room. Wood expands and contracts, so you gotta give it some breathing room.
The panels were designed to interlock, which was pretty cool. I used the mallet to gently tap them together, making sure the seams were nice and tight. It was like a giant puzzle, slowly but surely coming together.
Used the rubber mallet to tap the boards of the assembled floor together to engage the locking mechanism.
The Tricky Bits
Of course, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Cutting the panels to fit around the door frames and that one awkward corner? Yeah, that was a pain. I used a jigsaw, and let’s just say my cuts weren’t exactly…professional. But hey, they’re mostly hidden, so who’s gonna know?
Finishing Touches
After what felt like an eternity (probably just a long weekend), I finally got all the panels down. The room looked completely different! I then installed some quarter-round molding around the edges to cover up those expansion gaps and give it a more polished look. A little bit of wood putty to fill in any nail holes, and I was done!
The Result
Honestly, I’m pretty proud of myself. It wasn’t perfect, but I did it! The floor looks great, and it feels solid underfoot. Now, whether I actually use it for volleyball or just as a really nice-looking storage room…well, that remains to be seen.
Admired my work and took a well-deserved break.
