Okay, so picture this: I’ve got this beautiful, but kinda boring, wooden floor in my living room. It’s hevea – you know, that rubberwood stuff – and it’s solid, but… lifeless. I wanted to add some oomph, some personality. And that’s where the “cushions dancing” idea popped into my head.

The Brainwave

I was staring at the floor, sipping my coffee, and thinking, “This needs… something.” Rugs felt too ordinary. Then I thought, what about a bunch of colorful, mismatched cushions? Like, a lot of them. Scattered around, almost like they were… well, dancing!

The Hunt

First things first, the cushions. Forget those boring, matchy-matchy sets. I wanted wild patterns, textures, everything! I hit up a bunch of places:

  • Thrift stores: Scored some amazing vintage velvet ones, a bit faded, but with tons of character.
  • Discount stores: Found some super cheap, bright solid-colored ones to add pops of color.
  • Online marketplaces: Snagged a few handmade ones with cool embroidery and tassels. Seriously, tassels make everything better.

The “Installation” (aka, the Throwing Around)

This was the fun part. No measuring, no planning. I just started chucking cushions onto the floor. Big ones, small ones, round ones, square ones… chaos! I’d step back, squint, move a few around, throw some more. It was like creating a messy, comfy, colorful art piece.

I realized I wanted some different heights, so I grabbed a few old, sturdy wooden crates I had lying around. Flipped them upside down, threw some cushions on top – instant mini-lounges! Perfect for sprawling out with a book.

The Finishing Touches

It was looking good, but I wanted more. So I added:

  • Fairy lights: Draped them around the crates and some of the bigger cushions. Instant magical glow.
  • Plants: A few big, leafy plants in terracotta pots. Brought in some life and grounded the whole crazy scene.
  • A low coffee table: Just a simple wooden one, so I’d have somewhere to put my snacks and drinks.

The Result: Cushions Dancing!

Honestly, it’s my favorite space in the house now. It’s cozy, inviting, and totally unique. The hevea floor is still there, but it’s not boring anymore. It’s the stage for my cushion dance party! It is perfect for lounging, reading, chatting with friends, or just staring at the ceiling and daydreaming. It’s pure, unadulterated comfort and a little bit of playful weirdness. And I absolutely love it.

My friend came over the other day,and asked me:“what happened here?” I smiled, and said “Cushions dancing.”
