Okay, here’s my blog post about installing batten basketball soft maple portable wooden flooring:

Alright, guys, so I’ve been wanting to set up a decent practice space for basketball at home. I didn’t want to mess with concrete or anything permanent, and I wanted something that felt good underfoot. That’s when I stumbled on this portable wooden flooring thing. Soft maple, batten system… sounded fancy, but I figured, why not give it a shot?

Getting Started

First things first, I cleared out the area. It was just a big, empty space in my backyard, kinda rough, but mostly level. I didn’t want to deal with any major ground prep, so I just made sure it was free of any big rocks or anything that could poke through.

Laying Down the Battens

Next up, the battens. These are basically just long wooden strips that act like the foundation. I laid them out in a grid pattern, making sure they were spaced evenly. I didn’t get too scientific with it, just eyeballed it to make sure they looked kinda parallel and perpendicular. I used a hammer and a few nails to keep everything in place.

Putting the Floor Together

Then came the actual floor panels. They were these soft maple squares, and they had this tongue-and-groove thing going on. It was pretty easy. Just used a hammer to connect those * was a little bit like playing with oversized puzzle pieces.

  • Started at one corner and just kept adding panels.
  • Made sure the tongues and grooves were lined up properly.
  • Gave each panel a good whack with a rubber mallet to make sure it was snug.

Finishing Touches

Once I got all the panels down, it actually looked like a real basketball court! It’s so cool, but,I noticed a few spots where the panels weren’t perfectly flush, so I just went back and gave them another tap with the mallet.

Honestly, the whole thing was way easier than I * took me one afternoon to finish it. And now I’ve got a sweet little practice court right in my backyard. It’s not NBA regulation size or anything, but it’s perfect for shooting around and working on my handles. Super stoked with how it turned out!
